THE ACORN FEBRUARY
2012 MANAGERS REPORT Hello everyone & welcome back to our northern
friends! It is good to see all the familiar faces around the park. I’d like to
take this opportunity to remind everyone about the rules on dogs. I have been getting more than a
few complaints from people who are upset about the increasing numbers of people who are not using
the two dog walks located in the park, but instead are walking along the roads and using the drainage culverts or property
owner’s yards to let their dogs relieve themselves. You are not allowed to let your animal relieve
itself on someone’s property or in the drainage culverts. Your pet must also be on a leash.
Dogs are great animals, but can be a source of very hard feelings if they are not properly controlled or exercised
in the proper areas. I’d also like to ask everyone to please contact the Okeechobee post office if
you have any questions or concerns about your mail. You may come to the Ancient Oaks office to get your
mail box opened or to buy stamps, but any other dealings, need to be done with the Post Office. Their phone
number is (863) 763-3616. Thank you & have a great season, Ron Zobel-----Park

January 2012 Manager’s Comments Hello, Everyone! I hope you enjoyed a great
Holiday Season. It is good to see our park’s snowbirds returning. I’d like
to let all of our residents know a little history on a couple of contractors we choose to use for a lot of work here in the
park.K Builders and Bass Electric
are often seen in Ancient Oaks. I consider them both an invaluable tool in managing the Park’s maintenance
and accomplishing special projects. While they are not always the least expensive, they consistently do
quality work, which passes all required inspections. As you probably know, the County is always on a hunt
for building violations, and for park employees to take on certain jobs would put the park in violation of some building codes. Both of these contractors are time-responsive
to our needs. We are never put on a list to wait weeks for paperwork and the job the start.
They are respected by the County, and have a smooth track to getting required permits and engineering drawings.
Several times, we have been put on a short-time requirement by the State of Florida to accomplish certain changes or
additions within the park, or be fined or forced to shut down the system, such as the water plant. Times
like that have proven the value of using quality contractors like K Builders and Bass Electric to meet a deadline. An example of this type of work will be the
installation of the handicap lift at the pool in 2012. The State has mandated that all public pools have
a lift installed by this coming spring. Our pool is considered to be public because we have people who
rent units in the park. This equipment and the installation will be thoroughly inspected by several agencies.
It will require detailed installation drawings, and must be done by certified individuals. I could
bob-and-weave for months and not get it approved, or contract this out to a qualified contractor and have no problems with
inspectors.On another note, I’d
like to remind everyone of our Annual Meeting coming up. It will take place on January 11, 2012 in the
Clubhouse at 10:00 a.m. I hope to see you there!
Do You Want to Dance? Our Wednesday afternoon dance sessions will
begin the second Wednesday in January, the 11th, from 3 to 4:30. We’ll have diversified
instructors and dance steps--waltz, polka, sixteen step, jive, etc. Mark your calendar and keep Wednesday
afternoons free to join us. We’ll guarantee you loads of fun, and you’ll meet some interesting
members of our park. Don’t have a partner? Don’t know how to dance?
Don’t let that keep you from joining us. There will be others without partners, and we’re
all learning some new steps or practicing some old ones. Hope to see you at the clubhouse at 3 p.m.
on the11th.
Painting
Class The Painting
Group will meet Thursday, January 5th, at 8 a.m. to determine what they want to paint, and, hopefully, to meet
our new instructor. Classes will start January 12th at 7:30 a.m., which gives us 30 minutes
set-up time. Hope to see you there. If you have any questions, call Vickie Oliver at
357-3768.
Needles & Thread By Barb Reasor Needles and Threads Group will meet Friday, January 13th,
at 11 a.m. in the clubhouse. Please join us and bring your ideas for projects as well as dates of events
the group may want to attend. For questions and information, call Barb Reasor at 467-7202.
III Night Join us on January 21, 2012 for III Night.
Please check the bulletin boards for more information. Just a Reminder… January 30th the great states of
South Carolina and Tennessee will
hold their annual evening of dinner and music. A great time and good ole country cookin’ will be
on the menu. Hope to see you there.
Luminaries By Carolyn Gibson Thanks to all who helped with the Luminaries. I thought they made the park look beautiful.
I’m always looking for someone to take care of their block to make sure we get every street covered.
If you would be willing to help with this project next year, please call Carolyn at
447-0542.

dancing on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. If you’ve never danced before, I work with the
beginners for about an hour beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays; however, all dancers are welcome to join us anytime during
the 2-hour session. All dancers are also welcome on Thursdays, but there is not a beginner

Important Paper Recycling Information SP Recycling Corp. has forwarded information
on the quality standards for acceptable materials, which includes newspapers, magazines, catalogs, white paper, and shredded
paper. Please place only these paper materials in the recycling bin. Unacceptable materials include telephone
books, boxes or cardboard, plastic bags, brown kraft bags, and trash (plastic, wood, metal, glass), which produces poor quality
for the finished product.SP Recycling
Corp. can only continue to recycle our paper products if we provide them with good quality paper, so please cooperate with
them by placing only the acceptable materials in the bin.Thank you!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! A grouch is a fellow who has sized himself up and then is sore about it. One of the hardest secrets for a man to keep
is his opinion of himself. Authority
does not make you a leader; it give you the opportunity to be one. A lot of people believe in law and order as long as they can lay down the law and give the orders.

President’s Letter
Welcome Back!!!
As my wife and I walk around the Park every morning and evening, we are delighted to greet all our old and new friends.
Many of you have commented on how nice the Park looks and that you are so glad to be here. We too
feel very lucky to be able to spend some of our Golden Years in such a fine facility. Ron and the maintenance
crew have worked really hard over the summer on the sewer system, roads, and marina, besides trying to keep up with the grass
mowing. We hope you have a most enjoyable 2011-2012 Season with friends, fishing and golfing buddies, and participating
in the social activities. If you need activity schedules, etc., stop by to see the girls in the office.
They will be happy to assist you any way they can. Happy Holidays!
Robert Christensen
Manager’s Report There is a persistent
rumor going around the park that there will be another special assessment in the next budget. It is
being promoted by people intent on scaring park voters. There will NOT be a special
assessment next year nor in the foreseeable years, and there is no rate increase planned for next year
nor anytime with the information currently available to us. The
costly equipment replacement/maintenance work demanded to keep the Park functioning has been completed, and our pro-active
maintenance schedule will keep everything running efficiently and economically. There is a State
Mandated program that the park will be working on over the next few years. It is a CROSS Connect Control
project, which will involve installing many backflow-prevention valves, among other things. It will not
be cheap, but it will be worked within the limits of the existing budget. We have had an engineering study
completed, and this will allow setting up the state mandated compliance program. I wish everyone a Hearty
Welcome Back and Best Wishes for the Holiday Season!! Ron Zobel ___________

Okeechobee Blood Roundup By Jol Creech Florida Blood Centers would like to thank all that gave blood and helped
from Ancient Oaks during the roundup on November 19 and 20. The goal of
600 units wasn’t reached, but they are very pleased with the 532 units that was collected from the Okeechobee Community.
That will go a long way toward providing the holiday’s blood needs. Remember,
the BIG RED BUS will be in our clubhouse parking lot on January 19th. ___________

doing walking DVD’s with Leslie Sansone on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:40 a.m. We will also
